Metal notes

Metal notes

Choosing a metal for daily wear is mostly a question of finish, not of how bright it looks in a photograph.

A softer gold tone sits closer to skin and does not flash under indoor light. It also forgives the small scuffs that come from a bag strap, a keyboard, and a coat cuff. We edit the jewellery collection around that kind of wear, because a piece that only looks right in the box does not earn its place.

Weight matters as much as colour. A fine chain should be light enough to forget, and a band should be smooth on the inside edge so it does not catch on fabric. If a piece feels sharp in the hand, it will feel sharp on the wrist.

A soft finish hides the week of wear a high polish cannot.

Clasps, sleeves, and a watch all leave a fine scratch. A brushed or satin face takes that mark and keeps the colour even. Mirror polish looks sharp on the day it leaves the studio and tired after a few commutes.

“
Warm gold sits better next to skin than a high polish that shows every mark.

Store chains flat, and keep stones away from the paste.

A piled chain tangles and the links rub. Lay pieces in a soft tray. Skip dips and creams on anything with a pearl, a soft clasp, or a stone setting.

The same rule covers rings, studs, and a short strand. Look at the inside of a band and the back of a setting. That is the part that touches skin all day, and it should be as considered as the face.

Pearls want a soft cloth and a dry box. Gold wants the same cloth and almost nothing else. Water left in a clasp is what dulls a finish, not the wearing itself.

If you are choosing between two tones, hold them next to the watch or the other chain you already wear. Matching the metal you live with matters more than matching a trend.

Bring the piece in, or send a note, if a clasp feels stiff or a stone sits loose. The shop does not charge a card. An inquiry is enough for a repair question or a size check.

We keep the edit small on purpose. Fewer finishes, worn more often, is the whole of the metal note.
