Wick trim
Trim the wick before the next light, not during it. The rest of the note is how we do that in the studio.
A short wick, about the width of a small fingernail, is the trim. Let the wax cool before you move the glass. Let the melt reach the glass once. A short first burn tunnels the rest of the candle.
A long wick smokes and mushrooms.

The first burn sets the memory.

Wick trim is a note from the studio, not a rule for every house. The pieces in this edit were finished with this habit in mind.
If a piece you have does not match the note, send a question with the name of the piece. The reply is more useful than a general rule.
An inquiry is the way to ask. Nothing on this page is a charge.
Keep the habit small enough that it happens. That is the care these pieces were made for.
