Lip notes

Lip colour in this edit is a stain with a little slip, not a paint.

The useful test is a Tuesday. If the colour looks like costume when you are only going to the shop, it is too much, however well it photographed. A red that reads as your own mouth, a little clearer, is the one that leaves the studio.

Apply from the bullet or with a finger. Brushes make a sharper edge than this formula wants. Press, do not draw. The centre of the lip can stay sheerer than the edge.

Test the colour at a window, not under the shop lamp.

A warm bulb makes every red kinder. Daylight shows whether it turns blue or orange on your skin. If you are choosing from a photograph, look again outside before you decide it is yours.

“
Choose the red that still looks like your mouth in daylight.

A lip colour should survive a cup of water and then stop.

It will come off on a meal. That is fine. What it should not do is feather into the lines around the mouth after an hour. Blot once on the back of the hand. If it crawls, it is the wrong formula for you.

We keep the edit to a few colours because a drawer of near-matches is how nothing gets worn. One red you will put on for a plain day is the useful one. A second shade is for a darker coat, not for a mood.

Pencil, if you use one, should be the same family as the colour, and only where the lip is uneven. A hard outline is a different look, and it is not this edit.

Store the colour cool and capped. An open bullet in a hot bag softens and then never sits flat again.

Daylight, one blot, a colour you can wear with no other makeup. That is the note.

If a colour stains in a way you did not want, it is not a fault in your mouth. Send a note with the shade name and we will say whether another one in the edit is quieter.
